Former Black Queens Player: Lack of support affecting women’s football

Madam Anita Wiredu-Minta, a former Black Queens player and Women’s Football Representative on the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), has stated that the absence of support for women’s football is hindering their advancement.

Women’s football in Ghana is still suffering from logistical and financial issues, according to her, despite the fact that the female senior national team has competed in the FIFA Women’s World Cup twice.

Madam Wiredu-Minta made these remarks on an Accra-based TV station.

“Just compare the preparations between the male teams and that of the female teams towards both local and international tournaments and you will see the disparities,” she said.

The former Black Queens player and GHALCA Women’s Football Representative also decried the absence of organizational and physical structures, and urged duty bearers to get their act together so that the necessary structures and support can be put in place for the growth of the women’s game.
